Reports by Topic

The Center’s mission to study attitudes toward the press, politics and public policy encompass five broad topic areas; (i) business and economics, (ii) domestic policy and social issues, (iii) foreign policy, (iv) the news media, and (v) politics. The following categories group reports from the designated topic areas for the past two years. Reports generally address multiple issues and are cross referenced in more than one topic area.

Business and Economics
Public perceptions on the general economic condition of the nation, personal financial situation, and forecasts for future economic status and confidence.

Domestic Policy & Social Issues
General domestic and social issues including drugs, technology, education, religion, death penalty, social security and other salient topics. Features our annual religion report and others prepared in conjunction with the Pew Forum on Religion in American Life.

Foreign Policy
Includes the quadrennial America’s Place in the World reports, a survey of opinion leaders and the general public on American foreign policy, conducted in partnership with the Council on Foreign Relations.

News Media
Monthly News Interest Index measures how closely people follow major news stories. The bi-annual New Consumption Survey records the public's use of, and attitudes toward, the Internet and traditional news outlets.

Politics
Approval and performance ratings of political figures, support for policy issues and voter attitudes. Bi-annual report features a typology which divides the American electorate into distinct voting groups and identifies the basic values and attitudes that animate political behavior.
